The Investopedia Definition states: “Open architecture refers to when a bank or investment firm offers both in-house and third-party products and services to its clients. The goal is to create a one-stop shop of clients, who do not have to shop around several firms to get the offerings that they want or are best-suited for.” It’s similar to using an insurance broker versus just one company that only has their in-house products to sell. This is important because it allows you to find the best fit for you and not for the company. In addition, it keeps the fees very competitive for the investor. For example, if you want to focus on BRI (Biblically Responsible Investing) then you have the freedom to do that. Instead of having to settle on a group of companies that make up a fund that don’t align your beliefs and values.
