Replacing “What If”with “Even If”

I find myself often conjuring up a "Plan B," which is a layman's way of describing a contingency plan. This practice helps me have more confidence that if something goes wrong, I have an emergency plan in place to cover the unexpected.

This mindset, in my opinion, is prudent--if we do not take it too far. However, strengths can become weaknesses if we are not filtering our decisions through the Word of God. While contingent planning has its place, I am guilty of allowing my what if mentality to affect my faith.

I often place too much trust, and pressure I might add, in myself versus trusting in God. What if I have not saved enough, or what if I become ill and can't work, or what if...fill in the blank. Living with a what if mentality reveals a spiritual issue in our lives where we may have let our trust migrate from the Provider to His provisions.

Perhaps we should replace our what if mindset with an even if mindset. Even if I lose all the financial resources I have, I will trust in God. Even if I am stricken with an illness, I will trust in God. Even if...fill in the blank, I will trust in God!
