The Source of Financial Fulfillment

Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them,

and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.

Ecclesiastes 5:19

I recently read an article by Rob West, host of MoneyWise, who shared a key to fulfillment in the stewardship of God’s resources. It begins with recognizing we’re dependent on God to not only provide, but to also enjoy what He blesses us with.

West states, “In the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes, the writer talks about those “to whom God has given wealth and possessions—and power to enjoy them.” Have you ever thought about needing power from God to enjoy what you have? God wants to bless us, but He doesn’t want material things to take His place in our affections. As Jesus put it, we can’t serve both God and Money. It’s human nature for our hearts to be captured by wealth and possessions, so we need supernatural power to keep those things in perspective—and to keep our lives free of the love of money. So if you have money and possessions, pray for God’s power to enjoy them but not be mastered by them, after all, He put you in charge.”

God is both the source of our financial blessings and the source of our enjoying those blessings—both are gifts from Him. Let’s stop and praise God today for His bountiful provisions!
