Tipping & Testimonies

When it comes to tipping, there is no shortage of opinions on when and how much we should dish out. Sadly, the Sunday after church crowd is often viewed by waiters and waitresses as the rudest customers and worst tippers.

I must confess, new social norms expecting a tip for any and everything stretches my generosity muscles. Yet, as Christ followers, we need to see the bigger picture. It is important that we be mindful of how we represent Christ in our world—even when it comes to tipping.

Our testimony, by definition, is “evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something.” A question to ponder: Does our generosity reflect evidence of the gift of eternal life God has granted us through Jesus? Being generous with the resources He has entrusted to us is a great evangelism tool God can use to open doors of opportunity that might otherwise be closed.

Let’s let our tipping testify of the grace we have received from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and let’s be conduits for His grace to flow to others.
